Blank Canvas Studios encourages artistic expression in individuals with developmental disabilities in St. Charles

On October 9th, 2009, RHD-Missouri’s Blank Canvas Studios is hosting its’ second art exhibit. RHD-Missouri has been providing services to people with developmental disabilities in the St. Louis and St. Charles areas since May of 2008. In February of 2009, St. Charles became home to its’ first arts-based day program, Blank Canvas Studios.

Blank Canvas Studios’ goal is to provide adults with developmental disabilities an outlet for unbridled creativity and self-expression. Each individual is given the tools and materials to create art and the support to define themselves as artists.
The artists work closely with professionals who have knowledge in a variety of areas such as painting, sculpting, graphic design, music, photography and videography. The studio staff assists the artists in developing their ideas and encourages them to be expressive through these artistic mediums. At the inaugural exhibit in May of 2009, Blank Canvas Studios hosted over 300 community members and sold $5000 worth of original artwork. On October 9th, the artists have another opportunity to showcase their artwork and demonstrate their growth as artists in the past five months.
The exhibit will be from 6-9 p.m. at Blank Canvas Studios, 122 Point West Boulevard, St. Charles, Missouri, 63301. For more information call 636-724-6616 or visit http://www.rhd-mo.org/. Private viewings are available by appointment.
